QPR Software Plc products are now represented in over 50 countries and localized in more than 20 languages. Today, the company is entering the Ukrainian market with products such as QPR ProcessDesigner, QPR EnterpriseArchitect, QPR Metrics and QPR ProcessAnalyzer.

“We help organizations achieve more with less. We provide technologies and methods that turn the invisible into visible, and the unknown into manageable, so companies can achieve frictionless business processes and long-term sustainable results,” reads the official website of QPR Software Plc. But what does this mean in practice, and most importantly, how can it help turbulent Ukrainian businesses? We talked about this with the Chief of Professional Services, Teemu Lehto, who has been working at QPR Software Plc for over 24 years.

— When you explain the principles of company architecture to non-technical specialists, what do you usually say?

— I say that building a company is like building a very large factory. You need a blueprint. You need to understand what happens when an order comes in from a customer. How production happens, how supplies are managed and financed, how products and invoices are delivered to who bills the customers?

Company architecture is the design of how a company wants to operate. It also helps automate processes through various IT systems. Good architecture makes your organization very agile. If everyone understands how the company is organized, it is easier to manage it.

— You recently entered the Ukrainian market, what does this mean for QPR?

— Entering the Ukrainian market perfectly fits into our global strategy. We work worldwide and create universal software products that are suitable for all markets. There is a global need for such software, and entering the Ukrainian market is an important step. The more markets and users we have, the better it is for our product development.

— You talk about the universality of your products, but the challenges faced by Ukrainian entrepreneurs today are hardly universal. How exactly can QPR products help Ukrainian companies?

— The uniqueness of the situation in Ukraine is that a new problem can arise at any moment. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where a Western company had 20 factories in the evening, and 19 in the morning. But this happens in Ukraine. Resources (electricity, logistics, products) that were available a week ago may now be unavailable. Companies need to be agile to quickly decide how to act and mitigate crises.

Enterprise architecture helps to see how a broken part of the chain affects other parts of the organization and what can be replaced to improve the situation. Moreover, with our software, it is easy to explain changes to all employees.

Another important point is that our products are easy to implement and scale. You can quickly start with one process, one department without involving a lot of resources and gain benefits. Then you can gradually cover other departments and increase the value of the product for the company.

— What are the other benefits of using QPR products for users?

— The main advantage is that QPR products bring clarity to all employees. Everyone is able to see how their own work affects others and why it is important to do all the steps in the process. If the process looks too complex, then people will jointly improve the process and reduce rework and lead times. Our software is very easy to use. It requires almost no training and meets the needs of both a company with 100 people and one with 100,000. After the necessary setup, users only need to open a web browser, log in, and start working with the product.

We also have great functionality. We have been operating for over 30 years, and during this time we have created a huge number of tools and functions for companies of any scale. A company can choose how detailed it wants to describe processes: if you work in highly regulated industry such as healthcare or the pharmaceutical industry, you can use many more functions than businesses in other sectors. It’s important that users can flexibly choose the necessary functions and scale.

— Over the 30 years since QPR Software Plc has been in existence, working with processes has changed significantly. What innovation inspires you the most today?

— We have a lot of interesting innovations, but probably the most intriguing one is the use of artificial intelligence. For many end customers, this is something like an experiment. Computers do not yet replace humans, but it’s very interesting. In particular, AI can analyze your process and make predictions. For example, if there is a risk that a delivery will be delayed. Also, our software helps to quite accurately analyze root causes. With QPR, you can conduct a root cause analysis and find out what is causing problems in the company and what can be done to avoid them. It’s very convenient.

— What other features do you think are important for users? What can improve their experience?

— This is a very important question. As I said, our products are easy to use both for those who create the content as well as for those who are viewing content created by others. In practice this means good looking reports, easy to use web-based navigation, simple business process diagrams providing the big picture with details. And we take customer feedback very seriously. When it comes to technology, errors or glitches in the product can be seen directly in the QPR cloud environment. So customers don’t even need to contact us for to fix the issue. This makes the user experience even better.

— What about localization and technical support? This is something that customers encounter quite actively.

— Yes, we pay a lot of attention to this. After all, we want to speak the same language as the end user. Ukrainian localization, which was done by the specialists from the Project Management Bureau, is now in the final stage. By the end of September 2024 we will be able to offer it to the end user.

As for technical support, our partnership model provides that the first line of support will be representatives of the Ukrainian company. Experience shows that this helps to make the process faster and more convenient. That is why we do a lot to ensure that partners talk about the product at a high technical level. For example, we have a training and certification program for relevant specialists.

Another advantage of working with Finland is that we are in the same time zone. This helps to get additional support from QPR when needed. But for most situations, support from the Project Management Bureau will be sufficient.

— What is your main goal in working with the Project Management Bureau and end customers in Ukraine?

— We always strive to make business profitable for all key participants. This time it’s QPR, the Project Management Bureau, and the end customer. Our products are used by the end customer to achieve their goals. At the same time, the Project Management Bureau can supplement them with its expertise and understanding of the specifics of the Ukrainian market, making them even more valuable for the customer.

From what we know, since the start of the full-scale invasion, products of a similar class have lost relevance in the Ukrainian market due to their Russian origin or pricing policy. We offer a quality alternative, and we see an opportunity to attract 10-20 new customers over the course of a year.

— You mentioned that you have been working at QPR for 24 years. How do you stay motivated and keep moving forward in your work?

— My motivation is largely based on the desire to create value for customers. If I were only interested in the success of QPR, I think I might have been tired long ago. But I’m really interested in seeing how end customers in different industries benefit from our solutions.

I’m also excited about the new products and innovations we are developing at QPR. It keeps me engaged and motivated. Over the years, I have changed roles in the company many times, which has allowed me to see the business from different angles. This is very valuable because my job is constantly changing, and it adds dynamics and novelty.

Finnish company QPR Software Plc is one of the most advanced companies in the world in the field of software for process modeling, enterprise architecture, and process mining.
