Software as a Service(SaaS)

Sometimes referred to as on-demand software, SaaS is a software delivery model in which application software and its associated data and infrastructure are hosted on the Internet and accessed by users with a web browser. This is the latest incarnation of the time-sharing concept of the late 1970s and the 1980s. In this option, SaaS customers sign on to the vendor’s hardware/software environment and use the applications from any location (common examples include sales force and payroll automation). The hardware and applications or tools are located externally to the company and may be anyplace in the world. SaaS computing services and applications are typically managed and supported by a third-party vendor on a fee-for-service basis.
